Poshpak, $35/month – subscription box for kids/tweens/teens
I paid:$31 after promo
Poshpak offers subscription boxes for kids, tweens and teens. It’s one of only a few options out there. At $35 a month it’s quite expensive and, unfortunately, the first box we got from them was very disappointing. We got the tween box and Poshpak seemed more interested in finding products that match the color pattern of their box than products appropriate to this age group.
The March box had a “summer” theme to it (they said it was spring, but the items are more appropriate for summer), which even in California is a bit premature.
The box, however, is pretty nice:
It comes with a card outlining the items in the box and providing estimated values.
This is what we got:
Aqua Maddie Jewelry Roll by Viv & Lou, $13
This jewelry roll is cute, no doubt, but it’s not an item particularly useful or exciting for tweens. Jewelry rolls are mostly used to carry your jewelry when you go in a trip. We take several trips a year, but my tweens don’t change jewelry that often, specially during a trip, to justify bringing it in a roll. Neither do I, as most of our trips are very casual, but I may just take it form her to give it some use.
Turquoise Lace Boho Head Band by Gertie & Baxter, $12
This is pretty cute and my daughter really liked it, though it’s a bit large for her head (it’s adult size)
Beverage Hugger by Lilly Pulitzer, $6
Despite its name, this “hugger” only really works well with cans – and I discourage my girls from drinking sodas, which are really the only beverages that come in cans (other than beer :-). So this is a pretty useless item as well.
Paper Straws by Loollipop, $1
These were very cute and my daughter liked them. I’m not sure why PoshPak didn’t specify the maker – they were easy enough to find in Etsy -, perhaps because they exaggerated the price. 75 straws sell for under $11.25
Nail Polish in Purple and Blueish by My Beauty Spot, $5
These were very cute colors, perfect for a tween. The nail polish was easy to apply. I’ll update on how long it lasts. My daughter was happy to get this.
The free lollipop was my daughter’s favorite item. I wish I knew where it was made (I avoid products from China), but my daughter survived eating it. It had a very intense flavor and she enjoyed it.
In all, this box had a value of $37, which is close to the $35 price for the subscription. However, the box’s value for my tween was of only $18, given how two of the items were not age-appropriate. Needless to say, I unsbuscribed quickly. It was an easy process – I just e-mailed them and I got a very quick confirmation.
I think I’m done trying subscription boxes for tweens. They just seem to be a very bad value.
